Steve Tames' last minute effort gives Witton a point by the sea

The game in the first half wasn't exactly the thriller that a lot of people may had predicted with both sides capable of scoring goals.

The first couple of chances of the game went Marine's way when the Mariners No.9, Dominic Reid skipped past The Albion defence and attempted to release a shot on goal but his effort was thwarted by Nick Ryan who's last ditch stretch saved Witton from conceding a early goal. Calvin Hare booted the resulting goalkick up to Will Jones who tried the half-way but steered it wide of the far post.

In the 9th minute, James Short came off the left flank to cut inside and release a shot on goal with his right foot, his effort curled away from goal but was comfortably saved by Albion custodian, Calvin Hare.

Several more efforts from Marine were thwarted by Nick Ryan and Michael Wilson who made several vital, last ditch attempts to snuff out any runs in behind Witton's defence.

Witton soon started to get a foothold of the game around the half hour mark when James Foley's in-swinging cross found Rob Hopley who headed wide but was flagged for offside regardless of where the ball went.

On the 33rd minute, Steve Tames had a corker of a shot bouncing off the underside of the bar as he cut inside from the right channel and smashed the ball goalwards leaving the keeper stranded and Tames with hands on head.

Steve Tames had a couple more chances at the end of the first half but fortunately for Marine they were either saved by Fearon or blocked by a Mariner.

The first half wasn't exactly fantastic but the game grew the further as it went on with more chances being created and more action in general,

Sadly, the first thing of note in the first half was a treble leg break on Nick Ryan after he went into what seemed to be a 50/50 with a Marine player but came out far worse and was taken to hospital eventually after being stretchered off.

Danny McKenna and Paul Williams came on at this point for Nick Ryan and Crewe loanee, Owen Dale.

In the 56th minute, Albion broke the deadlock after a poor backpass from Marine's Peter Wylie led to Rob Hopley intercepting the attempted pass, then Hopley rounded the keeper and poked the ball in the net to give Witton the lead just before the hour mark.

It didn't take the home side long though to reply when a pass towards Calvin Hare was intercepted by the tricky James Murray who took the ball past our keeper.

Witton piled on the pressure as they looked to regain their lead and so nearly did when a Paul Williams corner found James Foley at the far post who volleyed the ball goalwards but Martin Fearon, the Marine keeper made an unbelievable save to keep the score level.

The Albion did have Marine on the back foot but not for long as Josh Amis tried to replicate Steve Tames' shot from the first half and his effort loops up in the air and bounces off the crossbar.

In the 90th minute, Marine scored what they must had thought would be the winner as James Short, the Marine left-back cut in on his right foot and with Danny McKenna struggling to get to him, Short releases a shot into the bottom right corner.

Witton didn't take to that to well and responded immediately with pressure on the Marine 18-yard box. That meant a James Foley corner perfectly placed into the bundle of players in the 6-yard box and Steve Tames getting a touch onto the ball in a goal-mouth scramble.

That was also full-time and Witton walk away with a hard-fought point at the Marine Travel Arena.

Most importantly we wish Nick Ryan a full recovery after he suffered a triple fibula break and a single tibia break. Get well soon Nick!
