It's fair to say that Stalybridge were always going to struggle with this game, with Celtic only playing the day before on the same pitch versus Workington and Witton needing a reaction after their 4-1 home defeat to Farsley Celtic, it was certainly not a good time to face Carl Macauley's men.

And they were in no forgiving mood either. It didn't take long for Witton to really get ticking at the top end, some real nice moves were being put together with around the corner balls and flick-ons that were coming off.

Witton wanted to stop the rot of six games without a win and they started doing just that, right from the off. Owen Dale got in nehind the Stalybridge right back and sent a low ball across the face of goal but it was sent a little too far away for Rob Hopley to stretch out a leg for it.

Stalybridge did have a good effort in the early stages of the game when a Oli Roberts free-kick forced Calvin Hare into making a very good stop, tipping Roberts' shot around the post.

The chances continued to come but all in Witton's way when Paul Williams broke forward and released a well-hit effort wide of the target. Steve Tames also had a opportunity when Owen Dale's sharp turns allowed him space to lay off to Tames only for him to be flagged for offside.

A rare second opportunity presented itself to Paul Williams again who again hit it with a lot of power and the keeper did eventually grab hold of the ball after originally scrambling for it.

Now on the 32nd minute, Celtic's Connor Hughes cut in from the left-flank onto his right foot and released a shot at the near post but not enough to worry Calvin Hare.

It took until the 35th minute for Witton to break the deadlock whe out of nowhere, Steve Tames ghosts through the whole Stalybridge midfield and defence and taps it calmly past the keeper. Witton went straight up the other end again after winning the ball straight from kick-off and Rob Hopley was released in the right channel before hitting the ball powerfully into Sykes-Kenworthy which the latter palmed up in the air before eventually catching Rob's effort.

Stalybridge then had a chance through Oli Roberts when his curling effort from the left channel curled, again forcing a good save from Calvin Hare.

It didn't take long for Witton to add to the one goal cushion when Hopley was picked out by Owen Dale on the edge of the box who held up the ball for a moment before making an around the corner ball to Steve Tames who again makes a calm finish to double The Albion's lead.

The two goal lead followed through into half-time and by the looks of some of the Stalybridge players, they could had done with the break to get a breather as Witton showed no mercy in attack.

Witton were straight back onto it at half-time and Will Jones tucked away Owen Dale's cross from the right with a header at the near post. The game was now getting further and further away from the hosts and still Witton pushed on for more goals. River Humphreys was brought off for James Foley which means if Foley plays on Saturday, he would of featured in every game of the league campaign.

On the 65th minute, Prince Haywood found his way onto the scoresheet as he tucked away Rob Hopley's cross from the left at the near post. This ended up being Prince's third goal of the season.

It didn't take long for Witton to add the fifth goal either as Rob Hopley got onto the scoresheet and deservedly so when another cross from the right found Rob on the 6 yard box who's sliding shot managed just to creep over the line.

The five goals were enough for Carl Macauley's men and they did take their foot off the gas only for Owen Dale to hit the bar from outside the box in the 91st minute.

That was full-time and it was Witton's last away game of the season. Next up on Saturday we are at home to Lancaster City for a 15:00 kick off. It is the final home game of the season which means we also have our Player of the Season awards hosted by Graham Crouch. It starts at roughly 6pm and we look forward to seeing you there.
