Honours Even In Goaless Draw

Either side failed to make any of the created chances count as The Pics and The Albion play out to a draw despite Rushall being depleted to nine men.

Well it wasn't exactly a classic, most the games excitement came off the pitch as the travelling Wittoners turned up in fancy dress, but let's return to the action.

The first thing of note came in the 13th minute when Rushall's Lewis Archer drfted wide and his run in behind the Witton defence, Archer made a squared ball to Daniel Dubidat but his effort from 10 yards out was miss-kicked and the ball was eventually cleared.

5 minutes later, Owen Dale had an ambitious effort on goal that just went over the bar after cutting inside onto his stronger right foot. Witton had another chance later in the first half when Steve Tames saw Will Jones just on the edge of the box but his side-footed effort rolled into the hands of the Rushall keeper, Matt Hill.

One more effort fell Rushall's way in the first half when Daniel Waldron converted a cross incoming from the left flank and Waldron's header bounced into the hands of Ryan Neild.

The last chance of the first half was Witton's, when Paul Williams took a free-kick just slightly right of centre, and his whipped free-kick was well placed into the right corner but lacked enough conviction to trouble to Rushall keeper Hill.

The Referee blew the half-time whistle and you have to admit that there have been better and more eventful first half performances this season but that's the way it went with the ball being in the air for a good portion of the initial 45 minutes.

It took a while for something to happen in the second half but when something did happen it could had been so spectacular. Danny McKenna was in possession of the ball from around 35-40 yards out and his effort hit into the air dropped over the keeper and hit the post. It was almost a replica of David Bentley's goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal in 2008 (look it up!)

Witton started to really step on the gas with around twenty minutes to go and one example of that came when Owen Dale foun an extra yard of pace down the left side, skipping over sliding tackles from incoming Pics players and his perfectly placed cross resulted in no-one getting onto the end of it.

In the 84th minute, Rushall's Michael Townsend picked up his second yellow card for fouling Danny McKenna. Not long after that, Richard Brodie, a second half substitute also picked up a second yellow card for fouling Owen Dale, his initial yellow card coming from kicking the ball away.

In between those two sending offs, Steve Tames had a couple of opportunities on goal, both saved by Rushall's Matthew Hill.

And that was that, the Referee called for full-time and Witton can only pick up a point against one of the Premier Division's in-form sides. This now starts a run of five games in the league without a win, the initial one of the five coming when The Albion drew at second placed Warrington Town on Easter Monday. Next up in the League we host Farsley Celtic on Tuesday after the initial meeting between the two finished 1-1 at Throstles Nest.

Just a quick word of thanks to Rushall Olympic as a football club as they organised a bucket collection for the stricken Nick Ryan and raised £202.35 for him. Absolutely fantastic from The Pics

We also got word this morning that 1874 Northwich have, off their own back, organised a bucket collection for their game vs Bootle to help Nick. We thank 1874 Northwich for their generosity in helping one of our own out.
