An early stunner from Rob Hopley set Witton up for three points to stop a run of two consecutive defeats.

The Pitmen started the game very quickly with Joe Fitzpatrick swinging in a early cross with captain, Tom Thorley knocking it into the net, only for the linesman to flag for offside in the opening few minutes.

That momentum was shortly lived as Witton soon stepped on the gas with the ball falling down to Rob Hopley in the Pitmen's box following a Anthony Gardner throw-in and The Albion's skipper rifling a left-footed effort into James Wren's left-hand post giving Witton the lead on the 7th minute.

Witton soon carried that momentum on a miss-kicked clearance from Callam Mendez-Jones gifted James Foley with a effort on goal only for James Wren to save with his feet and the ball eventually being cleared.

Witton were allowed another chance on the 9th minute when Calvin Hare's kick went straight to Steve Tames, he laid it off to Anthony Gardner and his cross found Will Jones at the far post who could only guide his header into the hands of the Hednesford custodian.

James Foley took a free-kick from Witton's left flank that found Rob Hopley, yet his header, after leaping up well over the Hednesford defence was arrowed over the visitor's crossbar.

Witton had another chance coming from Calvin Hare's clever distribution as Rob Hopley won another aerial duel, the Witton skipper knocked it down to Tom Owens who flicked the ball past Callam Mendez-Jones and his left-footed effort went wide of the keeper's left-hand post.

On the 18th minute, Tom Owens won a penalty after being kicked down by Hednesford's Matt Curley. Steve Tames took the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way. That penalty was Steve Tames' 18th goal of the league campaign, nine of which have come from the spot.

Both sides had half chances each through Will Jones and Joe Fitzpatrick and Fitzpatrick again after a headed clearance from Rob Hopley fell to the former on the edge of the box.

Witton earned a free kick from the right flank that River Humphreys took, he placed it towards the penalty spot with Rob Hopley winning the flick-on and the Hednesford right-back Callam Mendez-Jones running it out for a corner kick to the hosts.

The Albion went into the break looking the more dangerous side of the two and leaving the Pitmen scratching their heads how they were only two goals behind.

Hednesford came out the traps well in the second half as a left-footed cross found Danny Glover from roughly 10 yards out who tried an ambitious overhead-kick that went wide of Calvin Hare's post.

Witton had a chance on the break as James Foley soldiered through on the left flank before giving the ball to Tom Owens who found Steve Tames, the latter's squared ball towards Will Jones was cleared only a couple of yards away from goal by Ben Bailey.

James Lawrie's free kick was punched away by Calvin Hare who was clattered into by Danny Glover. Both were left winded on the ground receiving treatment from their respective physios. Calvin Hare carried on whilst Danny Glover was replaced by Reece King.

That small break didn't stop Witton creating more opportunities as Steve Tames ran down the left channel before crossing into Rob Hopley who's flicked header was just about saved by James Wren.

Albion's third goal was added on the 83rd minute when Steve Tames broke down the left wing before whipping in a cross towards Rob Hopley who nodded it inside the far post. That was Rob Hopley's 19th league goal of the league season, all of which have come from open play.

Hednesford's lack of fortune in front of goal carried on when James Lawrie nicked the ball away from River Humphreys and he poked it wide of an open goal.

Hednesford had more opportunities on goal through Anthony Dwyer and James Lawrie but neither threatened Calvin Hare's goal.

The referee blew for full-time leaving Albion with the three points and going into Easter Monday's fixture away to Warrington Town in good form. We hope to see you at Cantilever Park making lots of noise and travelling in big numbers.
