Michael Wilson's early goal set Witton and Whitby Town apart as Albion held onto a 1-0 win in the heat of the Cheshire sun. Written By Callum Bradke

In what ended up as a pretty uneventful game, a goal on the 14th minute by Michael Wilson ensured Witton Albion take the three points.

The first half was pretty uneventful with the visitors having a fairly even amount of the ball as Witton but failed to make any real chances from it with only a few half efforts from Whitby's front two of Matthew Tymon and Junior Mondal.

Whitby managed to stay within the game in the first half yet without really threatening Calvin Hare's goal with River Humphreys heading away any incoming balls away. Michael Wilson broke the deadlock for Witton on the 14th minute when a short corner taken by James Foley came to Owen Dale who had the courage to shoot from range only to find Michael Wilson prodding home and wheeling away in celebration after Whitby's Jack Norton failed to get a strong hand to Dale's effort.

Roughly ten minutes later, Tom Owens found himself through on goal but his adventurous lobbed effort found itself hit over the bar. A few minutes later, Owen Dale had a free kick that again was hit over but Albion were getting closer to doubling their lead. Further efforts came after the 33rd minute mark when James Foley's shot zipped past the wrong side of Jack Norton's right-hand post, also a free kick from Prince Haywood which again found itself wide of the target.

Steve Tames found himself through on goal twice but was flagged for offside on both occasions. The Witton players walked back in the changing rooms feeling content with their performance but perhaps feeling that could had added onto their solitary goal with the chances that were presented to them.

Chris Hardy brought on Anthony Hulme at half-time to bring more of a physical presence to the Seasiders' frontline.

Witton started on the front foot again at the start of the second half when Prince Haywood span Whitby's Andy Monkhouse in circles only to release a shot from 30 yards that found itself wide of the mark.

For the next 20 minutes the game was controlled by both teams for short periods but both failed to create any chances at all. However on the 77th minute, Matthew Tymon for Whitby rued what might had been when his shot was headed off the line by River Humphreys. That was as close as Whitby came to scoring against The Albion with a Keiran Weledji header following that going over.

Paul Williams and Nick Ryan were introduced late on to see through the win for The Albion and the three points were earned as the referee blew for full-time.

Following the game, we had our Race Night in the Social Club which we are delighted to say was a real success and we would like to thank everyone that came and joined in the fun. Our next event is our St.Patrick's Night which is on the 17th March after the game vs Shaw Lane. Doors will open at 7:30pm with tickets costing £10 or £12 on the night. We will have a live band of "Jiggity Pig" plus hot supper as well.
You can buy these tickets from the bar in the social club, from Bruschetta or from JP Ceramics in Northwich.
