Rob Hopley scored a brace as Carl Macauley’s Witton ran out 4-1 winners at home against local rivals Nantwich Town after an impressive performance from The Albion.
The Albion fired out the starting blocks with a 3rd minute goal from Rob Hopley after some strong driving play from Matty Devine down the left wing. Devine played a driven cross into the box and Hopley didn’t take any chances, firing home from 3 yards.
Witton had the best of the chances throughout the first half in which was a real end-to-end game. The Albion finally capitalised on the pressure and doubled the lead in the 28th minute with a superb free kick from James Foley, who fired the ball into the top left hand corner. Dabbers goalkeeper Fabian Spiess got a hand to the ball but couldn’t prevent the goal.
The Albion went into the half time break with a 2-0 lead after an impressive first half against The Dabbers.
A toughly contested second half got underway, with both teams battling hard in the midfield.
A Yellow card on the 69th minute for goal scorer Rob Hopley and a free kick on the edge of the box gave The Dabbers a chance from 25 yards. Sean Cooke capitalised, placing the ball into the top left, Cutting the deficit in half to 2-1.
73rd minute Substitution for Nantwich, Nathan Cotterell was taken off for Daniel Griggs. A Substitution for The Albion as Crewe Loanee Owen Dale made his return from injury replacing Will Jones.
A 75th minute goal restored 2-goal cushion for The Albion as Hopley scored his second goal of the game. The chance was put on a plate by some good work from Steven Tames who passed the ball across the box, A tap in was converted by Witton’s number 9.
Another goal for The Albion in the 79th minute gave Witton a 3-goal cushion as Steve Tames put his name on the score sheet. He rounded the keeper and struck home from an awkward angle putting Witton 3 goals ahead, 4-1.
An 82nd minute return for Anthony Gardner after a long spell on the sidelines through injury as he replaced Prince Haywood.
Witton Albion ran out 4-1 winners after an impressive performance against local rivals Nantwich Town. Witton travel to Grantham Town next weekend.
