Double figure corner count confirms Witton's dominance

To compensate for Anthony Brown’s one match ban Paul Williams was positioned into the back line with Prince Haywood taking up a defensive midfield role. Crewe loanee Owen Dale was drafted straight in and took up the wide left berth whilst Danny McKenna thankfully was fit again to resume, playing behind the debutant.

Will Jones had the ball in the net on 7 minutes following a lovely threaded pass from James Foley, unfortunately though he was marginally offside.

Four minutes later and what proved to be the home team’s best chance of the match saw Leon Broadhurst's shot from close range blocked following good work down the left by Luke Shearer.

Nice approach work on 19 minutes saw a Jones shot go over the bar whilst at the other end two minutes later Kennedy Digie's glancing header went wide following a Aaron Forde corner.

As the half progressed it was Albion that dictated the proceedings a Danny McKenna free kick on 22 minutes being saved by Stourbridge keeper Matt Gould whilst Owen Dale's shot on 33 minutes after he had taken a central position was beaten down by the home custodian.
Prince Haywood's 25 yard shot on 34 minutes went wide from 25 yards whilst the half ended with Albion after forcing a couple of corners just fail to get a final shot in following a free-kick.

The home team made two changes at the interval but to no real avail as it was Witton who virtually dominated the whole half. Four successive corners came their way in a period that saw both James Foley almost put Albion ahead following a goalmouth scramble whilst defender Nick Ryan thought he had put the visitors ahead in the 50th minute only for Gould to tip his back post header over the bar.

Another chance for Witton came on 54 minutes when Steve Tames close range shot was saved by Gould following a flick-on from an Anthony Gardner long throw.

The only real effort of note from the home outfit saw Luke Benbow 's shot on 56 minutes snuffed out by the Albion defence.

On 61 minutes a Williams free kick drifted wide of the left post whilst following yet another corner kick Haywood sent a 30 yard effort wide
Into the final five minutes and yet again the Stourbridge keeper Matt Gould, the grandson of Bobbie Gould by the way kept his team all square, this time denying Foley from close range after a great bit of inter-passing between Dale, Tom Owens and Foley himself.

The final thrust forward then saw Dale cut in and after a fine run fire over the top.

Hypothetically speaking perhaps if you put together the opening 25 minutes at Workington and the last 65 minutes of this match then an absolutely brilliant performance away from home would be the outcome.
