League leaders come back down to earth with a bump after home loss

Match Report kindly supplied by: Andrew Simpson, Senior Sports Writer, Northwich Guardian

WITTON Albion came crashing back down to earth on Saturday.

Three days after taking over top spot in the Northern Premier League with a 4-1 success against Stalybridge, Carl Macauley's men succumbed to third-from bottom Rushall.

And there is no denying the visitors deservedly left Wincham Park with all three points.

The Pics led twice, with the winner arriving in the 82nd minute courtesy of Stan Mugisha to cap a battling team performance.

A Steve Tames penalty 12 minutes earlier had given Witton fresh hope. (The photo above, taken by Paul Heaps shows Tames one on one with keeper Jonathan Brown)

The leaders struggled to find any rhythm with too many passes going astray, especially in midfield.

Andre Landell, Kristian Scott and Majed Osman gave the home side a torrid time and could easily have been further ahead at the interval.
The one-goal advantage they held from the 33rd minute came thanks to Landell’s far-post finish with the Witton defence all at sea.

Witton rallied after the break, but found centre backs Joe Hull and AJ Adelekan in resolute mood. A penalty earned when substitute Micah Evans was felled by a last-gasp challenge, gave Witton hope. Tames rifled home the spot kick and within seconds James Foley burst clear only to see his well-placed shot superbly saved by visiting goalkeeper Jonathan Brown.

The winning goal arrived with the visitors' bench screaming for their team to close the game down. A loose ball in midfield was worked to Mugisha, who outpaced Anthony Gardner to curl a superb finish past home custodian Ryan Nield.
