Enhanced 2nd half show after surviving opening period

For this long journey north Carl Macauley was enforced to shuffle his starting line-up due to Matty Devine suffering from a hamstring problem. Paul Williams thus returned, wearing a number 17 shirt!

Albion took time to really get going and were relieved to see, after Scott Allison had got in behind the defence, the striker blaze his shot over the bar.

Halfway through the opening period an under-hit back pass caused Calvin Hare, in attempting to retrieve the ball, to fall onto the Workington forward leaving the referee no option but to award a penalty kick. Hare, wearing an extremely bright florescent yellow strip looked to really fill the goal (reference the photo above taken off Workington’s twitter) and when Anthony Wright struck his spot-kick down the middle the keeper, going to his left, used his legs brilliantly to block the ball.

A few minutes later Prince Haywood was fouled just outside the home penalty area, Williams virtually on the bye-line took the kick curling it across the face of goal but out at the far left post.

Allison wasted another opportunity one on one with Hare in sending the ball wide (ed’s thought wonder whether Calvin’s strip took the eye yet again!)

The half-time team talk certainly seemed to have the desired affect for after Hare had produced another great save and a Dave Symington free-kick had struck the post, a move down the right saw Anthony Gardner centre the ball, Steve Tames headed the ball onto James Foley who advanced towards the goal-line before sending the ball low past a couple of defenders to Rob Hopley, amazingly totally unmarked centre goal, leaving him the fairly simple task to convert and open his season’s goal account.

Another lovely move involving Haywood, substitute Will Jones and Foley ended with the latter being tackled when just about to shoot.
Just when it looked Albion might just hold on to win eight minutes from time Conor Tinnion thought otherwise and after running past several players he planted his shot into the left side of goal, giving Hare no chance whatsoever.

Workington threw themselves into getting a winner themselves but in the end were relieved themselves when firstly Jones held the ball up well before slipping to fellow substitute Alex Newby who could only find the side netting.

A minute from the absolute end it then took a really well timed tackle, with Hopley poised to net, to ensure the points were shared.
