Witton face a tough test on Saturday afternoon when they welcome third-placed Clitheroe to the U Lock it Stadium in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The Blues have made a good start to their league campaign and are unbeaten on their travels with two wins and two draws so far.

Their current position makes their recent decision to dispense with the services of manager Dave Dempsey all the more surprising, particularly to people outside of the club.

They haven’t waited long in appointing Danny Caldecott as the successor after he had left Trafford.

Witton have added to their squad in recent days with the acquisition of midfielder Harry Brazel from Bury FC, and the loan signing of central defender Tom Hoyle from League One Fleetwood Town.

Clitheroe had a successful season last time, reaching the play offs after finishing fourth in the table but were beaten by the eventual winners Workington AFC in the semi finals.

Witton go into the game looking to put last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Prescot Cables behind them.

A win could take them into the top five depending on results around them.

Last season’s meetings between the two sides saw Clitheroe take four points from Jon Macken’s team.

The game at the U Lock it Stadium ending all square with the goals coming in the last ten minutes, Connor Hughes equaliser in the last minute pinching a point for Albion.

The game at Shawbridge was a strange encounter with Connor Hughes giving Witton an early lead and then Clitheroe scored four times with two coming in the last fifteen minutes, a result that rather flattered the hosts.

Witton have won their last two home games against Hednesford Town and Widnes respectively, the latter courtesy of a very late goal from Connor Hughes so will be looking to make it three on tne run.

Kick off at the U Lock it Stadium is 3pm.
