On Thursday night at Wincham Park, The Albion boys somehow held onto a Cup final win that resulted in red and white ribbons being tied onto the trophy for the first time since 2009.

Most cup games between The Albion and Winsford United have turned out to be some classics, whichever side has won the game, but it's fair to say this game wasn't an easy one to watch by any means for a Wittoner.

Winsford really started to get the ball rolling in the first half without actually creating many clear-cut opportunities. They were always in and around Ryan Neild's box but failed to make most of it when James Foley collected Rob Hopley's knock down at the far post and leaving Foley to squeeze in a shot into the post.

Witton had a couple of chances though earlier in the half when Rob Hopley's square ball found Paul Williams about 25 yards out gave him enough room to pull a shot off that did initially trouble Winsford keeper Matthew Green. Witton's other chance of the half came when Danny McKenna's lofted ball over the top found Owen Dale running in behind Winsford's backline but Owen's first touch did kill the momentum of the ball and struggled to get it out under his feet when he released a shot straight at the keeper.

Winsford kept hold of the ball though and still looked dangerous, sometimes committing enough men forward that sometimes left it an even battle in defence vs their attack.

Winsford's best chance of the half came when Michael Taylor ran through on goal but his shot went wide of the near post in the 24th minute. Taylor was later taken off due to injury when he collided with a Witton midfielder.

That was the end of the first half, and with the way it was finishing, Witton players would have been hoping to carry on with the momentum of the game eventually swinging our way.

The Blues started the second half like a lightening bolt when former Wittoner, Michael Koral, scored but it was ruled out for offside.

Paul Williams had an effort on goal from near the half way line! Williams saw the opportunity to try to lob Matthew Green who was left back-peddling towards his own goal, fortunately for him, Williams' shot went over the bar.

It was now Winsford's time to have a chance, Michael Koral again forcing Ryan Neild into making a terrific save. The game continued with Winsford winning plenty of free-kicks and corners around The Albion's 18 yard-box but every single one was either cleared or headed over.

In the 71st minute, Owen Dale had a great run down the left side and eventually getting a shot away that nearly doubled our lead. That chance was then later followed up by Rob Hopley who's shot from a similar angle to Owen Dale's went wide of the far post.

The pressure from Winsford United increased but Witton were holding firm until in the 95th minute, a Winsford player forced an unbelievable save from Ryan Neild that would had stopped the game going straight to penalties.

AND THAT WAS THAT!

Witton Albion were crowned as Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup Champions. This was The Albion's first piece of silverware since 2009 wich in fact was this competition.
