A strike in each half from Adi Yussuf and Liam Daly was enough for Solihull Moors to make it through to the First Round Proper of the Emirates FA Cup in a 2-0 victory over Witton Albion at Wincham Park.

After two victories over higher division opposition in the previous two rounds, unfortunately, it was one step too far for Carl Macauley's side coming up against the National League high flyers as the quality shone through.

On a bright autumnal afternoon with a healthy turnout of 681, the Witton manager was able to bring Matty Devine and Cesaire Lingouba back into the side, while the pace of Delial Brewster was also used from the start. Recent cleared signing Shane Williams was named among the substitutes.

No sooner had the referee blown his whistle for the start of the game, then Witton had forced a corner. A quick break down the left hand side caused problems in the visitors' defence, but the ensuing delivery into the box was whistled for a foul on the goalkeeper.

There were a couple of half chances for Solihull in the early stages, Greg Hall tipping an effort from Jamie Reckford over the crossbar while skipper Kyle Storer fired high from 20 yards.

The home side showed glimpses in attacking situations, with Rob Hopley getting on the end of a long free kick from goalkeeper Hall, shifting the ball to his left but he couldn't get enough power on his shot and Ryan Boot made a save.

A moment later, Brewster showed his pace with a sharp run down the left hand side. He sent over a low drilled cross which ricocheted off a couple of defenders at the near post and went wide of the target.

James Foley, who had scored in each of the three previous rounds, almost capitalised on a slack back pass by Tyrone Williams but Boot got there just in time to clear his lines.

Solihull's forward duo of Jermaine Hylton and Adi Yussuf began to cause problems as the first half went on. Hylton had a 20-yard shot which was straight at Hall, while Yussuf fired in a couple of powerful shots which flew off target.

He did find the target on 39 minutes, though, and gave Solihull the lead after a good move. The visitors intercepted possession in midfield before a delightful Williams cross from the right found Yussuf who rose the highest and guided the ball into the net off the inside of the far post.

Just before half time, Albion caused problems down the right hand side. A pass forward found Hopley, who got past his marker before pulling the ball back for Brewster whose shot was blocked. The ball bounced agonisingly inches behind Foley who was flying forward on the far side, and the chance was gone.

It was a scrappy start to the second half, with the National League side coming into life to force a couple of goalscoring opportunities on the hour mark.

Witton custodian Hall was on hand to make a couple of excellent saves, though, first from a stinging shot from Storer and then a daisy cutter from distance by Luke Maxwell.

On 65 minutes, Moors central defender Liam Daly had a header parried away by Hall, while five minutes later, the goalkeeper at the other end had to be alert to deny an overhead kick by Lingouba.

Solihull confirmed their place in the First Round draw on 82 minutes. A corner from the left found its way to Daly at the back post and he rifled an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net to make it 2-0.

For Albion, it's more cup action in the next week, with first a trip to Chester FC in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday before an FA Trophy tie at Whitby Town next weekend.
