Tom Pope

Coach

Biography

Striker and appointed Player Coach in early December. Born 27/8/85 in Stoke-on-Trent who has been signed for this season after scoring 38 times for Congleton Town in 99 outings over the previous two campaigns.

Having graduated previously at their Academy, Tom signed professional terms for Crewe Alexandra in 2005 after a spell playing for Biddulph Victoria. Following loan spells at Lancaster, Stafford and Barrow he got to make his 1st team debut for the Alex on 10/3/07. By the end of the 08/09 season he’d made 64 appearances (38+26-16 goals).

£150k then saw him at Rotherham (41+18-6) where he was also loaned to Port Vale (10+3-3) for 3 months at the beginning of 2011, the Valiants signing him permanently for the next campaign. 168 starts, 15 subs and 66 goals later he was at Bury (61+19-14) for the 15/16 & 16/17 seasons.

A second 4 season stint at Port Vale (104+35-49) then ensued and with it his rightful place amongst the Vale’s greatest ever players, second highest ever scorer and the best post-war!
