Youth Team gain excellent point against title challengers

Unbeaten run continues with a hard-earned draw.

Full Time Score from Moss Farm:

North West Youth Alliance:

Witton Albion Youth 1 Heswall FC 1.

Witton Albion's youth team won a hard fought point against a strong Heswall side who have aspirations of winning the North West Youth Alliance 1st Division.

Kicking down wind in the first half, Witton’s high press game with incredible intensity and workrate denied Heswall any time on the ball forcing them to kick long.

Witton picked up many of the loose balls and dominated the play through the midfield energy of Kyle Phipps and Matthew France.

After 20 minutes and after winning another second ball Joe Salter was released through the middle by Finn Hutton and the in form number 9 finished first time left footed under the advancing keeper to put the hosts 1-0 up.

10 minutes later Witton nearly made it two when Harry Forster’s left foot free kick whistled past the right hand post from 30 yards. HT 1-0.

A definite game of two halves Heswall dominated the early exchanges with Witton defending resolutely as a team.

Joe Walker whose handling was excellent throughout was forced into several smart saves as the central defensive pairing of Hutton and the excellent Tom Rushworth blocked, tackled and headed everything.

With 20 minutes to go, the visitors were level when rare cheap possession was given up in the forward line and a superb first time pass split the defence to leave a visiting forward 1 v 1 with Walker who narrowed the angle superbly but not enough as the ball went in via the the right hand post. It was certainly deserved on the balance of play.

The last 20 minutes were virtually one way traffic as Witton held on defending brilliantly a succession of corners and Rushworth hacking off the line in the last 5 minutes. An excellent result against opponents who three weeks earlier had thrashed Witton 8-2.

Final Score: 1-1
