Ex player coverts late penalty
Gary Roberts (16 appearances at the beginning of the 15/16 season) skippered his Chester outfit to the narrowest of victories and struck the vital spot-kick six minutes from time after Danny McKenna had been adjudged by referee Jon Kenny to have done enough in his tackle on John Pritchard to merit the award.
In a much changed Albion line-up, six in total, from the week-end, that included debuts for both Shane Williams and Gareth Arnison, it was Witton that got themselves first onto the scoresheet. Billy Smart getting his header through at the near post in the 10th minute from James Yates right side cross.
Chester on the other hand, having been without a match the previous week and playing with a virtual full strength team nullified our lead within five minutes when the very impressive Craig Mahon curled in the equalizer.
It was a game of few chances thereon. We nearly got back in front lead but Josh Wardle turned the ball wide following a corner and then home custodian Grant Shenton had to be alert to push away a Will Booth free kick just before the interval.
With ten minutes remaining Greg Hall having initially mishandled a long ball flicked on by Danny Livesey made a fantastic recovery save to deny substitute Deane Smalley from close range.
