League wide Sports Traider initiative

Witton Albion is teaming up with the rest of the EVO-STIK League to raise funds for official charity Sports Traider.

To support the charity’s mission of helping more disadvantaged children and young people in the UK get involved in sport. The initiative was started on Non-League Day 2017 and we shall be making collections at tomorrow’s home fixture against Coalville Town.

A mountain of unwanted kit and sporting equipment has been collected by clubs and their fans for Sports Traider over the last two seasons and NLD2017 will also serve as the official starting date for donations over the course of the 2017-18 campaign.

To help mobilise friends, families and local communities on social media and their websites, Sports Traider are also providing digital marketing material for the cash and kit campaign as well as officially branded stickers for the planned bucket collections.
This season’s special efforts to provide clubs with the tools follows a league wide survey this summer to ask them how they wanted to help Sports Traider celebrate their third season as the EVO-STIK League’s official charity and what they needed most to be even more successful.

Urging clubs and supporters to pull out all the stops for 2017-18, EVO-STIK League chairman Mark Harris said: “We’ve been very proud to help our official charity do so much good work over the last couple of years thanks to the great efforts and generosity of all our clubs and their fans, players, volunteers and officials.

“After the special efforts the charity has gone too, the survey and the plans we’re launching today as a direct result of talking to our clubs, I’d urge everyone to really get involved and make this our proudest season yet helping people close to all our hearts, children and young people disadvantaged in life through no fault of their own.”

Founded in 2009 in Bedford by Lance Haggith, the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero winner, Sports Traider is dedicated to helping UK youngsters discover and fulfil their sporting potential, whatever their background, ability or disability.

As well as being recycled and distributed locally, donations of kit and sporting equipment are also sold in the charity’s nationwide retail outlets with the money generated then re-invested into grassroots sport for disadvantaged children and young people.

Apart from their growing number of permanent collection points and recycling banks for unwanted sports kit and equipment in strategic locations and links with schools and sports centres around the country, Sports Traider also works with local sports brands and retail outlets who are invited to donate surplus, end-of-line or seconds stock directly.
